Tanabata room (installation size: variable)

Random work from Mayumi Niiranen Hisatomi | Installation Ⅱ 2012 | Tanabata room (installation size: variable)

This project was the second trial of the tanabata room installation.
Everyone was free to join, everyone who joined was an artist.

I set up one space as "Tanabata room" at an old-growth forest of Mustarinda in Hyrynsalmi. Several wool strings were hung from trees. The walkers at the forest wrote their own wishes on strips of paper called tanzaku and hung them on the strings. This project started on the opening day of the exhibition(17th June 2012) and it was completed on the last day of the exhibition by the wishes from everyone who joined this project.
【At last, the wishes on paper got wild looks from being outside for over 2 months by rain and high wind at the old-growth forest.】

*Tanabata is one of the Japanese seasonal festivals (it's known as a star festival). People write their wishes on strips of paper called tanzaku and hung them on bamboo branches. We look at the starry sky during the festival and believe that the wishes will come true.
