Installation 2012

Tanabata room in Raahe (installation size: variable)

This project was for everyone to join.

I set up one room as "Tanabata room" at the gallery. Several wool strings were hung from the walls. Visitors wrote their own wishes on strips of paper called tanzaku and hung them on the strings. The strings were fasten to books which were personally valuable to me. The wishes on the strings become just like bookmarks and were kept with the books. This project started on the opening day of the exhibition(1st March 2012) and it was completed on the last day of the exhibition by the wishes from everyone who joined this project.

*Tanabata is one of the Japanese seasonal festivals (it's known as a star festival). People write their wishes on strips of paper called tanzaku and hung them on bamboo branches. We look at the starry sky during the festival and believe that the wishes will come true.
